Award By CBSE Chairman For Community Service

Guwahati, Jan 4: For their pro-active role in creating awareness on skill development and empowerment among the under-privilege section of the society, NPS International School, Guwahati has been awarded with the coveted CBSE Special Award in a glittering function held in New Delhi on Monday (January 4, 2016).

NPS becomes the first Northeastern school in history to win such award for their overall initiative in its adopted village, Bakarapara, under Rani Development Block of Kamrup district. The Guwahati-based school was awarded with a cash reward and a merit certificate during a meeting held at the national capital.

Altogether 17 schools across the country took part in the national competition in its final round on “Skill Awareness and Empowerment”. Some of the prominent features of NPS Project at Bakarapara Village include -- maximum involvement of students, duration of activity, number of beneficiaries, programme for awareness generation, process of implementation, impact indicators, evidences and the challenges faced during the programme.

The literacy rate in the village has also gone up to a large extent following the adoption of the village by NPS International School, Guwahati.

“As per the information received from the Office of the Education Officer, CBSE more than 250 schools across the country had sent their projects for the Award. Out of these, 17 were selected nationwide. NPS International School was the only school from the entire North East to win such a prestigious award,” Founder Director of NPS International School, Guwahati , Mr Jitendra Nath Das, said.

He further informed that other prominent schools which were also felicitated during the event include Scindia Kanya Senior Secondary School, Gwalior; DPS, Srinagar; Amity International School, Noida; St. Pauls, Sasaram, Bihar; Ryan International; DPS, Delhi; Fatima Central Senior Secondary School, Saidapet, Chennai and two schools of Apeejay, Kolkata .

Mr Ananta Das, senior teacher, and Sarlongki Tisso, a Grade X student, represented NPS International School during the award distribution ceremony.
