Guwahati, May 10: Lauding the effort of NPS International School to uplift the overall performance of students, eminent filmmaker MrsManju Borah stressed on the need of making good documentary to focus the social issues faced by the people of the North-east, especially in Assam.

“Documentary making is really a tough job. I really appreciate the efforts of the students of NPS International School to make documentary films apart from their regular studies,” Mrs Borah added while participating in a felicitation programme organized by NPS International School in Guwahati Press Club on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. The filmmaker of international repute also felicitated the students who were involved in the making of “Hope”, a documentary film prepared by the students of the school, during the programme.

Apart from its other achievements, the documentary films prepared by the students of the school have earned laurels in both national and international platforms over the years. With the production of Hope and Pariskar Assam, the year 2017 is no exception in this regard.

Hope, a documentary film prepared by the students of NPS International School in the year 2017, is a story on how the school managed to bring smile to two differently-abled students, Amit and Madhurjya, and their family members as both of them cleared their CBSE Class XII Examinations, 2016 with flying colours. Amit secured 93.2 % marks in Humanities in the examination. Madhurjya also successfully cleared the JEE-Mains 2016 examination.

Apart from earning laurels in various platforms (students categories), both in national and international level film festivals, Hope has brought glory to the entire North-east, especially in Assam this year.

Celebrating excellence in cinema, India’s most prestigious annual 7th Dada SahebPhalke Film Festival-2017 recognized the enlightening, entertaining and progressive cinema-works of students of NPS International School. Hope has won the Best Documentary (Students section) Award in the 7th Dada SahebPhalke Film Festivals, 2017.

Assam Bamboo Crafts, a documentary film prepared by the students of the school also bagged the Best Documentary Film and Best Cinematography (students’ section) awards during the 5th Dada SahebPhalke Film Festival, 2015.

In the international front, Hope has won the coveted Award of Recognition in Documentary Short (Student) Section in the IndieFEST Film Awards, California, US, 2017. The documentary film is also successfully screened at 4th Noida International Film Festival-17 (Best Documentary); INYFF International New York Film Festival, 2017 (official selection); TheModcon London Film Festival (finalist); Sunlight International Film Festival, Germany, 2017 (official selection); IndieWise Virtual Festival 2017 (finalist); 19thInternational Children’s Film Festival India 2016; 5th Mumbai Shorts International Film Festival-16 (best documentary); We Care Film Festival 2017 (official selection); 2nd National Children’s Film Festival, 2016; and many others.

Director of the film, Aakaansha Das, has expressed satisfaction over the performance of the crew members of the film. “We are really happy that Hope has earned laurels in both national and international platforms. We are very much optimistic that Hope will definitely do well in various international film festivals in the days to come,” she added.

Pariskar Assam is another film prepared by the students of the school in 2017. Adding another feather in its kitty, NPS International School, Guwahati has received the Certificate of Excellence from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, for Pariskar Assam, a documentary film prepared by its students, during the Swachh Bharat Short Film Festival Competition, New Delhi.

As part of its Social Responsibility, NPS International School, Guwahati adopted both AmitSaikiaandMadhurjyaKashyap till Class XII. Amit, who wants to be an IAS Officer, is physically dysfunctional and needed other’s help to survive and Madhurjya, who wants to be an Engineer, is deaf and dumb. He can do leap reading only.

“Amit is suffering from a disease in which muscles of the body get weaker and weaker and may slowly stop working and there is no treatment of this disease till now. The patient has to do some therapy like speech therapy, physical therapy respiratory therapy etc., for his survival,” said father of Amit, MrKhairulHaqueSaikia. While attending the classes, Madhurjya, since he can’t hear and speak, does Lip Reading of teachers.

Meanwhile, Mr JN Das, Founder and Chairman of NPS International School, Guwahati has lauded the effort of the students while making Hope and Pariskar Assam.

Earlier, two documentary films prepared by the students of the school, Assam Bamboo Crafts and We are Same Same but Different, have also earned laurels to the entire North-east region in 2015 onwards.

Assam Bamboo Crafts secured first position in the national-level film-making competition, organized by the CBSE in 2015. The same documentary was also sent to the 5th Dada Sahib Phalke Film Festival 2015 in New Delhi and the school won awards in two categories--- Best Documentary and Best Cinematography.

The documentary also won the Best Film Award in the 4th Bangalore Short International Film Festival 2015. In Indian Cine Film Festival 2015 and Kolkata International Film Festival 2015, the documentary was officially shortlisted for the final round in students’ category.
